I figure "enterprise" is an newfangled term for "business" or "company." It is self-important, to be sure, but I don't have too much of a problem with it. But if I'm understanding the word correctly, wouldn't Sprint's phrase "enterprise companies" (above) be redundant?

Another great post, Henry. We spend so much time explaining this to clients, many of whom insist they want to stand out from the pack but are nonetheless TERRIFIED to say anything that isn't exactly what the pack is saying. "Solutions" anyone? May we re-post this on the Editorial Emergency Facebook page? Thanks!

"Mission-critical" and "enterprise" are my personal favorite corpspeak phrases. So, you mean to tell me all those mind-numbing hours glued to the desk are really analogous to an episode of Star Trek?

This is a fantastic piece! I’m always looking for “evidence” that good writing = more money. Thanks for your testimony!

Good for you, Henry! I regular read product reviews online before buying stuff, and I just skip past the ones that are illiterate. As in the study you cite, I give more credence to the intellect of someone who can spell and write a coherent thought properly and thus can trust the validity of their reviews more. Well-written piece.

I work in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and run across this all the time. Aside from the content of the review, there are other ways to spot the fakes. One example is the brand new reviewer user name with no other reviews under his/her account. Another is when several 5-star reviews suddenly show up during the same week or day. Yelp has gotten good at filtering these fakes out, but I see plenty of it on Citysearch and Google Places.
